MyHistoricDowntown was created to promote living in historic downtown Little Rock, as well as other historic downtowns across the United States. Until the past decade, downtown Little Rock had been ignored and largely forgotten. Due to the foresight and cooperation of a group of visionaries, we are seeing this perception changing before our eyes. People are beginning to see a movement toward a rebirth of downtown living along with the desire to return to the beauty of owning a home with a history.
Our founder, Starre Haas, found herself with an unexpected opportunity to move her family of four to a historic craftsman home in downtown Little Rock. Their perception of downtown Little Rock came from friends and family who considered downtown “a bit rough.” Starre and her family loved the house, so they decided to do an investigation of their own by hitting the streets and knocking on doors. They wanted to see just what kind of people would be their neighbors. They were greeted by just the nicest people, many of whom invited them in for a tour of their downtown historic home and to share just how much they loved the neighborhood. The neighbors were proud to live in downtown Little Rock and to witness the revitalization of their piece of Little Rock. The Haas’ were also invited to the monthly Garden Club and were delighted to meet professionals, homemakers, and local business owners, most of which were either living downtown or were moving into the downtown community. This visit sealed the deal for the Haas family and they became proud newcomers in downtown Little Rock.
Starre Haas was anxious to get involved in her own downtown community as well as the movement toward supporting local businesses that we are seeing across the nation. Starre accepted the Vice President position of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, and now serves as their President- with the goal of promoting the idea of “Living Downtown.”
To accomplish the goal of supporting local businesses and drawing people to historic downtowns, we must aid in the efforts to produce a positive revenue stream for the local community group in order to fund our community projects.
The MyHistoricDowntown bumper stickers and tee shirt sales will help accomplish this goal. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Downtown Neighborhood Association on a monthly basis.
As we grow, we will be expanding into designs for other community groups with the intent of a portion of their sales being donated on a monthly basis.
